Xfinity Mobile is a phone service with two main unlimited plans: Mobile Select and Mobile Plus. Mobile Select costs $30 per phone line per month, while Mobile Plus costs $45 with eligible Xfinity Internet. Both plans include unlimited talk, text, and smartphone data in the United States. Xfinity Internet is required for both plans.

Xfinity says By the Gig is no longer available to customers who joined after April 22, 2026. Existing customers with eligible By the Gig lines can continue using that plan.

How Xfinity Mobile Data Works

Xfinity Mobile uses Wi-Fi when it is available and switches to Xfinity Mobile's cellular network when Wi-Fi is unavailable. Your phone can connect to Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots or other available Wi-Fi networks. Data used over Wi-Fi does not count toward your cellular usage.

With Mobile Select and Mobile Plus:

  1. You pay a fixed price for each phone line.
  2. Smartphone data is not billed by the gigabyte.
  3. Cellular data continues after you reach the plan's premium-data limit.
  4. Mobile Select may receive lower network priority during congestion after 50 GB.
  5. Hotspot data has separate high-speed limits.

"Unlimited data" therefore does not mean unlimited high-speed hotspot data. It also does not mean every line receives the same network priority in every situation.

What Happens After You Use 50 GB on Mobile Select?

Mobile Select includes 50 GB of premium 5G data per phone line each month. After a line exceeds 50 GB, Xfinity says the speed is not automatically reduced. The line may be temporarily slower than other traffic when the network is congested.

If you use 60 GB of regular smartphone data in one month:

  • You do not pay an overage charge.
  • Your phone continues to have cellular data.
  • You may experience slower service in busy locations after passing 50 GB.
  • Performance can improve when congestion decreases or the billing cycle resets.

Mobile Plus includes unlimited premium data, so it is the better fit if you regularly use more than 50 GB and need consistent network priority during busy periods.

How Xfinity Mobile Hotspot Data Works

A mobile hotspot shares your phone's cellular connection with a laptop, tablet, or another device. Hotspot use counts toward your mobile usage, but Xfinity gives it a separate high-speed allowance.

  • Mobile Select: 15 GB at 5G speeds, followed by unlimited hotspot use at 3G speeds.
  • Mobile Plus: 50 GB at 5G speeds, followed by unlimited hotspot use at 3G speeds.

After the high-speed allowance is used, 3G hotspot speeds may handle basic email and messaging. Video calls, large downloads, gaming, and streaming can be difficult at that speed.

A Mobile Select customer who uses 10 GB of hotspot data stays within the high-speed allowance. A customer who uses 20 GB receives 5G hotspot speeds for the first 15 GB, then 3G speeds for the remaining 5 GB and later hotspot use during that billing cycle.

Mobile Select or Mobile Plus: Which Plan Should You Choose?

Mobile Select is the lower-cost option for customers who use typical amounts of phone data and rarely use a hotspot. Mobile Plus costs $15 more per line and is aimed at customers who need unlimited premium data, more high-speed hotspot data, higher-quality streaming, or included device protection.

Choose Mobile Select if you:

  • Mainly browse, stream, navigate, and use social media on your phone.
  • Use less than 50 GB of cellular data most months.
  • Rarely connect a laptop or tablet to your phone's hotspot.
  • Want the lower monthly price.

Choose Mobile Plus if you:

  • Frequently exceed 50 GB of smartphone data.
  • Rely on hotspot service for work or travel.
  • Want unlimited premium data during congestion.
  • Want Xfinity Mobile Care Plus included.
  • Want higher-quality video streaming and extra phone-upgrade benefits.

Is Xfinity Mobile By the Gig Still Available?

By the Gig is a legacy plan and is no longer available to new Xfinity Mobile customers who joined after April 22, 2026. Existing customers can continue managing eligible By the Gig lines as long as they do not move to the latest pricing structure.

By the Gig charges for shared cellular data use instead of giving each phone unlimited data. The price depends on when the account was created and which legacy pricing structure applies. Xfinity's current disclosures show different rates for older account groups, so existing customers should check their account rather than assume the current unlimited-plan prices apply.

If an existing By the Gig customer moves all lines to Mobile Select or Mobile Plus under the latest pricing, Xfinity says the account cannot return to By the Gig pricing.

What Else Appears on an Xfinity Mobile Bill?

The advertised plan price is only one part of an Xfinity Mobile bill. Other charges may include:

  • Government taxes and regulatory fees
  • 911 fees and connectivity charges
  • Phone installment payments
  • Device protection charges
  • Activation or line setup fees
  • International usage charges where applicable
  • Promotional credits or discounts

Xfinity Internet is required for the current Xfinity Mobile plans. Eligibility, pricing, taxes, and promotions can vary by location and account.

Bottom Line

The choice comes down to the limit that matters most to you. If you use less than 50 GB of phone data and rarely use a hotspot, Mobile Select keeps the monthly price lower. If you need unlimited premium data, 50 GB of high-speed hotspot data, or included device protection, Mobile Plus justifies the extra $15 per line.
